Chaffinch

This bird travel south when winter comes. But now it`s back ! Another sign of spring.

Eurasian Jay

The Eurasian Jay (Garrulus glandarius) finds the birdfeeder interesting as well. :o)

Great Spotted Woodpecker

A Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major) visited my grandparents birdfeeder today.

And as you can see, its still snowing. :o)

An owl at the feeder

This Eurasian Pygmy owl visited my feeder yesterday. It`s the smalest owl in europe . The lenght of this little owl is about 15 - 17 cm and the weigh about 50 - 65 g. It is a hunter who eats little birds nearly on it`s own size. And this owl likes to be out hunting in daytime. It sat in a three and enjoyed the sun. In minus 15 degrees all animals need a little warmth from the sun.

Julenek

This is a julenek! Julenek is a stalk of oats tied to a pole. Traditionally, it was good luck if birds ate from the juleneks. It symbolized hope for good farming.

Today we hang them out as a snack to the birds, and it has become a symbol of Christmas in Norway.

4 little birds in a three.

When the nature get cowered by snow, the little birds need some extra care. And today there were lots of them at the feeder outside my kitchen window . Bullfinch, Greenfinch, Blue Tit, and Great Tit.

Party

Its kind of crowded at the feeder when the Greenfinchs are having a party! ;o)

Eurasian Sparrowhawk

My aunt shot this picture of this Eurasian Sparrowhawk who has been visiting her several times the last week. :o)

Crested Tit

The Crested Tit (Lophophanes cristatus) is also a comon bird in Norway. I think it is a cute little bird. :o)

Great Tit

Since we are into birds - the Great Tit (Parus major) is a very comon bird in Norway.

Bullfinchs

My aunt has given me promision to use one of her pictures of the Bullfinchs (Pyrrhula pyrrhula) that often visit her porch. :o)
