Julenek

This is a julenek! Julenek is a stalk of oats tied to a pole. Traditionally, it was good luck if birds ate from the juleneks. It symbolized hope for good farming.

Today we hang them out as a snack to the birds, and it has become a symbol of Christmas in Norway.

Christmas-morning

It was a beautiful christmas-morning on the mountain of Veggli. Snow, sun and minus 6 degrees.

December is the month for short days and long nights. It`s winter outside but inside it`s warm and nice with lots of Christmas-lights.

It`s winter outside my kitchen window. December is the Christmas month whith snow, short days and lights everywhere.

Julehuset - The Christmas House

In Rollag you can find the farm shop "Julehuset gaver og hobby". They sell arts and crafts made in Numedal, and of course trolls and "nisser" (small alves, the traditional Norwegian Santa Claus).

They are usually open every day - even in the summer! And these funny alves are sitting on the stair to welcome the customers! :o)
